Metal Separators for Bulk Material Handling
To protect our natural resources, more and more plastic products are being collected, recycled and used to make other products. Quite often during the recycling process, metals enter the production process due to poor quality controls, production defects and poor maintenance work. Production shutdowns and costly product recalls are just a few of the worst possible things that can happen to a plastic recycler. To avoid these problems, most recyclers realize they have to implement a reliable metal separation system that can separate the raw material feedstocks from even the smallest metal particles.
Choosing the Right Metal Separator
When it comes to handling bulk plastic materials, metal separators have to be designed so that they can handle bulk materials that are free falling. We offer two metal separator sizes: 1) Compact and 2) Large Scale metal separators. Our compact separators can handle material throughputs rates ranging from 300 to 8,000 l/h, while larger models can handle material throughputs rates ranging from 8,000 to 300,000 l/h. Finding the right metal separation system is a major concern for most plastic recyclers. Not every process requires the highest levels of sensitivity or has to handle high material throughput rates. Depending on the size of the metal parts to be detected, the kind of material being conveyed, how much material has to be handled, and where the metal separator fits into the process, we can help you choose the right solution for your process.
Within each of the compact and large categories we offer three types of metal separator devices that can be categorized in terms of performance or sensitivity levels: 1) an analog or standard metal separator sensitive enough to detect metals parts starting at 0.5 mm, 2) a digital metal separator for the removal of metal parts at a higher level of sensitivity starting at 0.4 mm, and 3) a digital metal separator that can achieve levels of sensitivity starting at 0.3 mm due to a new powerful digital interference suppression capability that prevents environmental conditions from disturbing the metal detection process.
The Compact Solution - 300 - 8000 I/h
In a typical plastic recycling system, the raw material will flow from the the top of the helical lifting conveyor into a metal separator. In some applications, using gravimetric dosing, a second metal separator is introduced that will move the rejected material from the first separator kernel by kernel to the second separator. Without a second separator the separation of metal is not as accurate or precise, and the material lost can be as high as 5,000 l / week. With a second separator, material loss is reduced to a little as 40 l/week. In just a few months, this two tiered solution will pay for itself.
These second tier separators consist of three main components: 1) an analog or digital evaluation system, 2) a ring shaped metal detector, and 3) a downstream 2-way separating shunt.
Within the compact series of metal separators, we are also pleased to announce the new VA Series metal separation solution that is even more compact, sturdy and reliable. Available in diameters of 35, 50, 70 and 100 mm, these robust units can handle material throughput levels ranging from 1,000-8,000 l/h. The Large Scale Solution - 8000 to 300000 l/h
In a typical plastic recycling system, the raw material will flow from above through the metal separator into the funnel. The white rubber collar isolates any vibrations and oscillation.
The compact series of metal separators is available in 100 to 350 mm. It features an extremely sturdy steel setup rack, and an extremely low knock sensitivity in a fully encapsulated high quality pick up coil. These large scale models are easy to operate and put into commission. With a calibration free sensor coil, these separators offer sensitivity levels that can an detect metals ranging in size from 0.5 to 2.5 mm.
